This Is Me!

This is me, what a powerful song, so beautifully written. I would like to create this blog and base it around this fabulous song; simply because of the words. Recently with help, I’ve now learnt that I’m no longer a victim of sex abuse, but I am a survivor and those words alone touch me hard, but through this song, I can honestly relate to it in so many different ways from the abuse, to the bullying, to my personal life and from my sexuality to my mental health. I’ve blamed myself for so long, but now I can stand tall and with pride and everyone who I am. I’m not sorry for who I am or what people may see in me, however with three simple words; this is me!

I have listened to this song so many times yesterday and today and by goodness, i’s a beauty. The real meaning may have it’s own reasons, but I’d like to dedicate it to those survivors of sex abuse and those supporting those affected.

On my behalf, I’ve had it tough, this is my story through lyrics and the way Keala Settle, opens up as she sings these powerful lyrics, is like me accepting that i’m no victim of child sex abuse no longer, but i’m a survivor and yes, however bruised, i’m not sorry, this is me!

My dedicating is to my better half, my main squeeze, my supporter, my boyfriend and a man i’m proud to call mine. This is me, this is us!

“This Is Me”
I’m not a stranger to the dark
Hide away, they say
‘Cause we don’t want your broken parts
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one will love you as you are

But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away ’cause today, I won’t let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades
And reaching for the sun (we are warriors)
Yeah, that’s what we’ve become

Won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
Gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

…This is me

And I know that I deserve your love
There’s nothing I’m not worthy of
When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
This is brave, this is bruised
This is who I’m meant to be, this is me

Look out ’cause here I come (look out ’cause here I come)
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum (marching on, marching, marching on)
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

I’m gonna send a flood
Gonna drown them out
(…this is me)
